Mae West Bustier Knitting Pattern
This is a very close-fitting (bodycon) sleeveless vest, slipover or bustier knitting pattern worked in two tone pin stripes in the round, bottom up with shaped faux bustier/corset, neck and armhole bindings. Sizes 76-135 cm (30-54 inch) bust. Stitches are knit, purl, rib and slip stitch. Chart reading and a small amount of sewing seams is required. Intermediate level.
The design creates an optical illusion accentuating your curves and pinching the waist into a traditional hourglass silhouette. Consequently, it can be flattering on all body shapes where the waist is smaller than the hips. You can dress it up with a floaty, voluminous print blouse. Wear it to work with a business shirt and straight leg linen trousers. Create a folk style with a peasant blouse and voluminous, brilliant multi-coloured skirt or go casual with an unbuttoned Henley-T when you’re feeling saucy. “Come up and see me sometime.” as Mae West would say.
